Thanksgiving Day – Every day is a thanksgiving day when…

THANKSGIVING DAY

Every day is a thanksgiving day when your heart is full of and fill with nothing but gratefulness and thankfulness.

My friend’s son is going home for thanksgiving. I told him that he must have lots to give thanks. He didn’t disappoint me by saying that he does have much to give thanks even though it was a year packed with hard work. He has been studying very hard and juggling with many demanding subjects.

Today I thank God for putting a hedge around my family and I. I have taken God’s protection for granted. I thank God for making it possible for me to take the H1N1 vaccine jab with no side effects. I was a little apprehensive but God has allayed my fears with his faithfulness. I thank my God for his goodness and kindness.

Incidentally Today is KINDNESS day.  And GOD is kind.

What is a long lost favourite?

my favourite hymn… WHEN I SURVEY THE WONDROUS CROSS

hardly sung these days but is good to pause and meditate on the precious cross and wonder how have I been bearing the precious cross?

Hyacinth7When I survey the wondrous cross On which the Prince of glory died, My richest gain I count but loss, And pour contempt on all my pride.

Forbid it, Lord, that I should boast, Save in the death of Christ my God! All the vain things that charm me most, I sacrifice them to His blood.

See from His head, His hands, His feet, Sorrow and love flow mingled down! Did e’er such love and sorrow meet, Or thorns compose so rich a crown?

His dying crimson, like a robe, Spreads o’er His body on the tree; Then I am dead to all the globe, And all the globe is dead to me.

Were the whole realm of nature mine, That were a present far too small; Love so amazing, so divine, Demands my soul, my life, my all.

[Added by the compilers of Hymns Ancient and Modern] To Christ, who won for sinners grace By bitter grief and anguish sore, Be praise from all the ransomed race Forever and forevermore.

Something NEW yet nothing change…

High rise buildings are seen in the foreground of Dharavi in Mumbai, Asia's largest slum

 Gateway to India

WHAT A CONTRAST?

I’m in Mumbai again. This is my 5th trip and the last trip made was in 2007.

Something NEW… of course new things… long meandering queues because of H1N1 and tight security at airport and at hotels because of terrorism. Arriving at 11.30pm  INDT ( 2.00am SINT) with a hour delay because of heavy air traffic was tiring and energy sapping. It was made worst with the long queues and comments like ‘please follow the queue’ (quite amusing coming from the locals … like talking to like) . To add to the frustrations I have had to wait for another 45 minutes because the driver has fallen asleep at his wheels in the carpark. I reached the hotel at about 1.30am INDT (4.00am SINT). Took a while to unwind and didn’t sleep till almost 2.30am INDT (5.00am) . What a night?

NEW…The airport has a new and huge sheltered carpark.

NEW… a highway from the airport to Bandra.

yet NOTHING CHANGE… I expected great and good changes in this city.  But I was disappointed.  I saw this beggar with such a badly twisted arm on the road. I was told by my vendor not to look him in the eyes. How could I when I have had  problem just looking at the twisted  mess of his arm. It’s depressing. What do I expect? I must have expected some good social changes in this city with the new developments. But I still see babies … tiny weeny ones lying or sleeping on the pathway. No CHANGE… I still see the same shanties at every corner… the outcasts … the homeless with/in  the traffic begging. The gulf… the extreme… I cannot understand…

I still say that I dislike coming to India because it’s depressing.
